Quixotic Challenges # 26 - Emboss It!

Hellooooo!!

Welcome to another Quixotic Challenge! This week our newest DT member Simonne has chosen the theme of embossing. So go for dry embossing or heat embossing...the choice is yours.

I coloured another of Mo's images...can't get enough of them : This one is called 'Patience' and is available in rubber in the Quixotic Paperie and comes with a matching sentiment! Perfect!

The images is coloured with copics. I will post a list of these at the bottom of the post for those who are interested :)

The papers I have used are from The Girl's Paperie -'On Holiday ' collection. I won these from the fabulous Elaine's blog candy!! Thanks again Elaine...told you I would use them soon :) These papers are available to buy in the Quixotic Paperie and are full of fun bright holiday colours and patterns.

I cut the bunting from one of the sheets of paper and strung them together with some twine and added some alpha stickers to create the sentiment.

As this is a bright summery card, I didn't want to distress my edges with a dark ink, so I inked all my edges with white Staz-On ink for a change. And finally for the embossing part I dusted down my Cuttlebug embossing folders! I have ordered some of the new Tim Holtz texture plates...so hopefully I will be doing a little bit more embossing on my cards in the future..nothing like a new piece of kit to get us inspired :)

I hope you have time to check out the Challenge blog to check out the rest of the DT's inspiration. Now next week is a big week for the Quixotic Paperie...look out for a very special 1st birthday blog hop!! It is going to be fab!!

I might be quiet for the next few days as I have a bit of behind the scenes work to do.... but I will be back to reveal all next week!

back really soon,

Judy x

Sugar Nellie Blog Hop - Elisabeth Bell

Morning everyone!

Welcome to a little fun blog hop the Sugar Nellie DT have put together. We decided that it would be fun to show off some of the older stamps Sugar Nellie has to offer. We decided to showcase some of the old Elisabeth Bell images.

I chose 'Daisy'.....one of my all time favourites and I know a lot of you love her too!

Now you might have read on the Sugar Nellie blog last week that Karen threw down the gauntlet for me to try some CAS or 'clean and simple'. That is definetely not my normal style. The more embellishments the better for me. But it is fun to be challenged to try something different!

So, I had a little think.... I have always wanted to try and make some little notecard sets for my Etsy and Folksy shops. And I thought this is the perfect opportunity.

I stamped 'Daisy' directly onto several 4 x 4 inch note cards and coloured the image with copics.
The sentiment is stamped underneath... a steady hand is recommended! ( I had to bin a couple !) And then very simply I added 3 co-ordinating adhesive pearls onto the card.
Then I made a little box to match. Now this box is not CAS but I couldn't help myself !!

I will be putting this little set up for sale later on today.

Now if you want a little feast for your eyes go check out what the rest of the DT have done with their Sugar Nellie images!

Thanks for popping by!

Thanks for all your comments. They are so appreciated !

Something a bit different???

Morning folks! Hope you are well and enjoyed the beautiful weekend we had in the UK.

So I thought I would play about and make a card that matched the weather. It is a little different for me...no patterned papers!!! It kind of feels a little bare but I think I like it.
I coloured a hAnglar and stAnglar that I bought from ebay a few weeks ago and then just used some bright fun papers, a bit of stitching, doodling and some rub-ons and there you have it.

Not much to it really :)

Off to go get on with the household chores today!! Lots to do.

Back tomorrow with a little fun Sugar Nellie blog hop!

Thanks so much for popping by :)

Sugar Nellie DT - Forget-Me-Not

Good morning!

This card is for my middle son's teacher who is leaving their class today to go on maternity leave. I thought this image from the newest release from Mary Hall from Sugar Nellie, would be just perfect for a card for him to give to his teacher. And the name is very approriate too. This image is called 'Forget-Me-Not'.

Jude, is a very diligent pupil and is very eager to please his teacher. He becomes very attached to them and is really sad that she is leaving with a month to go to the end of the term. We are hoping and praying that the class does not have a string of supply teachers from now until the start of July when they go on summer holidays.

So I coloured the image with copics. For those of you with eagle eyes will notice that I couldn't decide the direction of my light source! please ignore my confusion! I must have been a little over-tired when I was colouring.

The papers and ribbon are from SU! and the circle sentiment stamp is from Cats Life Press.

Do you think my flowers look a little like daffodils??

What do you mean NO!! :)

Ha ha ..I did my best and the yellow part of the flower is an EK Success punch and the centre is made from the rolled up flower tutorial I posted here!

Thanks for stopping by today. I appreciate you coming by :)

Quixotic Challenge #26 - 'How Sentimental!'

Hello everyone?? Are we well today? It is Wednesday so that means it is time for another Quixotic Challenge. This time Kim has chosen the theme of 'How Sentimental!' For this challenge you have to make a sentiment or Word Art the focus of your card/layout/project.

I have had this Bible verse (Romans 8:28) stamp from Paper Makeup stamps for ages and just not had the opportunity to use it and make it into a card. So thanks Kim for helping me out! This is such an encouraging verse and would be great to sent to someone who is going through a hard time.

Quixotic Paperie
has a vast array of sentiment stamps from Paper Makeup Stamps and would make great cards used on their own or alongside an image. You can check out the selection here.

The papers are the from the gorgeous 6x 6 Kaisercraft pad. I have then simply embellished with some twine, buttons, roses and a flower!

Thanks to Mojo Monday for the fab sketch...I will not be entering as I missed out one of the elements.

Right I am off. My sister is staying with me and we are off for a little crafty jaunt this afternoon!

Have a great day whatever you are up to.

Sugar Nellie - Leanne Ellis - Fleur

Morning! I hope it is glorious with you!

It is gorgeous here..beautiful spring sunshine with a hint of warmth. I put on my cropped trousers on for the first time :) Yippee!

I just wanted to share with you one of newest Leanne Ellis images called Fleur from Sugar Nellie Isn't she so spring like?

I decided for a change to stamp her with Brown Memento Ink and onto Kraft cardstock for a little bit of a different look. I then coloured as normal with prismacolor pencils.

The paper is October Aftn and I got the paper doily from The Hobby House. The roses are all prima and the little spray in the background is from Quixotic Paperie.

Thanks for popping by. Hope you have a wonderful sunshiney day!

Dirt Cake and Demo's!

Well I have no card to show you today but I wanted to share with you all something that caused a bit of curiosity when I posted it on my Facebook page!

It was my youngest son's 4th birthday a few weeks ago and we shared the celebration with some friends who have moved here from Alabama in the USA. Their son had just turned 2 so we headed out to Haughton Park, Alford for the day. Now my sweet friend, Blair, offered to make the cake.

This is us trying to light the candles...it was a tad windy!

I think it is one of the best cakes I have ever seen!
  1. beacuse it was so realistic
  2. because it was so simple to make
  3. It was soooo tasty :)

So I am going to share the recipe here with those of you who are interested.

Ingredients

  • 50 g butter, softened
  • 224 g cream cheese, softened
  • 60 g confectioners' sugar
  • 196 g instant custard
  • 830 ml milk
  • 336 g whipping cream
  • 905 g Oreo Biscuits
  • packet of jelly worms, snakes or bugs!

Directions

  1. Chop cookies very fine in food processor. The white cream will disappear.
  2. Mix butter, cream cheese, and sugar in bowl.
  3. In a large bowl mix milk, pudding and whipped topping together.
  4. Combine pudding mixture and cream mixture together.
  5. Layer in flower pot, starting with cookies then cream mixture. Repeat layers.
  6. Hide jelly worms int he cake leaving out a part of it so it can be seen.
  7. Chill and serve!

If you are still with me I just want to give you a heads up...I will be doing a demo day at Simply Create on Sat 5th June from 10:30 until 3:30pm. I will be sharing a few tips and techniques on using prismacolor pencils and prismacolor pens.

So if you are free that day I would love to see you! Please do pop in and say Hi and introduce yourself. I love putting faces to blogs!

back soon,
Judy x

Quixotic Chellenge #25 - DIY Flowers

G'day folks! Thanks for popping by on this lovely Wednesday....and that only means it is time for another Quixotic Challenge. And this week it was my turn to choose the theme. I choose D.I.Y flowers as I have seen so many beautiful handmade flowers that I needed a good reason to have a go at a few of my own.

For my card I have coloured another of the fabulous Mo Manning images that have made it into rubber. And if you didn't know already Elaine is stocking the most recent releases from Stamping Bella in her store. This one I coloured is called 'Bye Bye Girl' and is basically the female version of the card I made last week! She is wonderful to colour...I do love her ladybird rucksack!

My paper flowers are versions of ones I have seen around bloggy land...I can't remember where I have seen them but I saw a tutorial on how to make them somewhere.

So here are my instructions for making the flowers. As I say I saw this somewhere else recently but don't know where. So if anyone else knows, they can tell me and I will happily give credit where credit is due!

1. Draw a spiral on the back of your piece of cardstock or patterned paper. The bigger the spiral, the bigger the flower!

2. Cut out the spiral on the lines you have drawn.

3. From the outside of the spiral curl the paper tightly to form your flower shape.

4. Glue Glossy Accents to the base to secure the flower!

5. Ta da! your flower :)

Finally the papers I have used are Fancy Pants 'Rusted Sun' collection....just stunning papers, with rub-ons, alphas and acetates all co-ordinating. Well worth the money !

Thanks for reading all the way to the end:)

Hope you have time to join us this week at Quixotic Challenges!

Back soon!

Sugar Nellie DT - Tiny Tiddler

Good Morning!! This morning I have to show you another of the fabulous new Manga's recently released from Sugar Nellie. Today is also the day when I taking part in a very mini blog hop with my DT friends Dena and Janiel. So please stop by their blogs and see what they have done with this fab image too!

The image we have all used is called 'Tiny Tiddler'. Isn't she adorable?? I have coloured her with prisma pencils and I have dug deep into the bottom of my papers and found some old Basic Grey ones that I have never used before. They are form the 'Offbeat' collection. Aren't they bright and funky? I wanted to create a girls card with non-traditional colours and these seemed to fit the bill.

The sentiment is from Penny Black and I have used some of the die-cut stickers you get on 12 x 12 paper packs to embellish this card. They always seem to get left neglected but I decided I must try using them on my cards !

Thanks for popping by today. Can you believe we had snow flurries here yesterday and I have woken up to a white covering on the ground...not much but still SNOW!!! Where oh where are you summer??? Please come and pay us a visit!

Chat later,
Judy xx

hAnglar and stAnglar!

Good afternoon!

I hope the sun is shining as gloriously with you as it is here in the North East of Scotland! We still have an Arctic wind but the sun just brightens everything up. Don't you think?

I just wanted to share with you a card today that I made just for fun :) I bought some of these gorgeous stamps from Ebay. The image is coloured with copics. The papers I have used are from SU. They are called 'Bella Bleu'. They are just so pretty.

The layers are all stitched and distressed with ' Tea Dye' Ink. I have also used some of the Tim Holtz 'Tattered Florals' dies to create the flowers and added a vintage brad to the centre. I just inked the edges and gave them a good scrunch up! The touch of lace in towards the left is from Prima and can be purchased from Quixotic Paperie.

Thanks for stopping by today. I hope you have a great weekend. I have plans to hit the garden this weekend and give it a good old tidy up!

Back soon,

Sugar Bowl 35 - Marlene's Sketch

Good morning! As always Marlene has come up with an awesome sketch! It was great to play around with all those circles! Marlene has also given us the extra option to include as *recycling*.

This challenge one of you will be in with a chance to win 6 Sugar Nellie stamps of your choice AND a Martha Stewart punch!!!!

My card today features a sneaky peek at one of the NEW Mary Halls due out later this month from Sugar Nellie. Keep your eyes peeled! This one is super cute and very spring like! The image is coloured with copics. For the recycling option...I guessed you have spotted it!!! Yup some old cardboard from one of the many pizza bozes that come through my door :) The card board has just been painted with a touch of crackle paint.

The punched border around the circle is an idea I saw on my friend Dena's blog and in turn she had seen it on someone else's blog...that's how it all works isn't it?? Here is the original link. Is anything ever truly original I wonder?? Now there is my question to ponder for the day!!

I hope you have time to try out the fabby sketch and please check out the rest of the DT's work here.

Thanks for all your wonderful comments!

  • disposable wipes..makes cleaning the bathroom so much easier (especially with 4 males in the house)

New Manga Images by Sugar Nellie!

Yeah girls .... did you know that the new Mangas from Sugar Nellie are now released! You can get hold of them right here!

In my humble opinion they are just the best yet!! I have chosen to colour my personal favourite first!

I have coloured Rock Idol with copics and used prismas and Sansador to created the blended background. The stamped grungey background is a Tim Holtz stamp.

The papers are Bo Bunny. The stars are punched from an SU punch and the papers are distressed with a Tim Holtz tool. Boy my floors do need a good clean up after the load of distressing I have been doing on my cards lately!

Well stay tuned...I should a few more samples with the Manga's lined up for you this week as well as some sneak peeks of the new Mary Hall stamps to arrive soon!

Thanks for popping by!

Enjoy the long weekend those of you who are lucky to have it!! Lets hope it stays nice and dry!
