Hedgie Notecards! - Sugar Nellie

Morning folks! It is a bright , sunny but cold morning here in Aberdeenshire...definitely Autumn is in the air. And what better reason to get out my Sugar Nellie Autumn kit again!!

Don't forget you can get your own kit here...and it is even on special offer!
Now, no special skill or talent to share with these little notecards. I simply stamped the hedgehog straight onto 5, 4 by 4 inch notecards and coloured in with pencils. If you use copics the ink seeps through to the other side. I then inked the edges of the notecard and added some adhesive pearls in some gorgeous autumnal colours. I have added a different sentiment to each card.
I want to just let you all know we will be doing a fab 'Recipe for all Seasons' Sugar Nellie blog hop..kicking off at 9am on sat 4th September.

Sugar Bowl - Lilian's Sketch

Oh me oh my..what is happening to me? 3 blog posts in 3 days! Phew! I need a lie down!

It is great to be back with a card for the Sugar Bowl Challenge and this week we have a fab sketch from Lilian with the extra option of pearls (which I totally forgot about on my card.....sorry!)

The prize for this week from Sugar Nellie, as always, is pretty awesome: 4 Brand New Country Cousins for Christmas, Letraset markers and a new Snowflake embossing folder! I think this makes the challenge definitely worth entering :)
My card for this week features one of the images from the Autumn Kit. I was so happy to be able to bring it out again! I am so fond of this little set and if you like it too, then this is the perfect time to get hold of it. It is now reduced to a fab price over on Funky Kits.The image is all coloured with copics and the papers are just cobbled together from a few places. The leaves are a quickutz die and the sentiment is from Autumn Leaves.
Tomorrow I will have another little make to show you that uses the Autumn kit! You might be seeing a lot of it over the next few weeks so I can get lots of use out of it before it disappears till next Autumn!


Oh and I nearly forgot, Gayle is going to be launching a competition for some new Sugar Bowl 'Sweeties'. This is going to be launched next week...so keep your eyes peeled!

Quixotic Challenge - Shiny Happy People

Afternoon folks! Time for another Quixotic Challenge and this week it is the super talented Kim that has chosen the theme of 'Shiny Happy People'....you just need to create a card or project with glitter, glitter glue, gloss! Nice and easy!

For my card today I made an easel card and used a Mo Manning image that is now available in rubber in Quixotic Paperie. This cutie is called 'I Even Love the Box.' He is coloured with a mixture of prismas and copics. The box, hair and skin are coloured with copics and all the blues are done with pencil. I just didn't have the right copic shades to get the blues I wanted. The sparkle on the hat is from the Viva Decor Holo Iridescent Glitter Liner!
The paper are from Tim Holtz 'Vintage Shabby'. For the stars I used the pack of 5 Wooden Stars from the Altered section in Quixotic Paperie and then I painted them with 'Sky Blue' Claudine Hellmuth painted and while the paint was still wet, I added a good sprinkling of Glamour Dust. The crochet ribbon I have used will be back in stock next month. Keep your eyees peeled!

A Clean and Simple Gorjuss Card!

Hiya all!

Just a very, very quick card to share with you today! I have been busy crafting but it is mostly behind the scene stuff that I can share on my blog later :)

Sugar Nellie are having a fab blog hop on the 4th September that you won't be wanting to miss - previewing the new Christmas stamps! And I have a class coming up in Simply Create on the 18th September. At the class we will mainly be focusing on colouring techniques with prisma pencils but making some fab boy projects with funky Bo Bunny Papers.
Anyway this card is a clean and simple notecard...no patterned paper, and almost no embellies. This kind of card appeals in my online shops ...... Sometime people don't want to pay a fortune for a card but just want something simple and cheap yet handmade. So I am going to be trying a little line in clean and simple !

I love the effect you can get with colouring with prismas on kraft card...the only thing I would do to improve this card is to go over some of the black stamping lines with a permanent fineliner. As you are colouring you can lose some of the definition of the stamp. The sentiment is from Hero Arts.

Sugar Nellie - Altered Box

Morning guys!

Well this morning I wanted to show you a box I made for a special gal! In my little Etsy and Folksy shops I have been trying to branch out a little from just having cards in there. So here and there you will find tags, door hangers and a few little altered boxes.

Well the lovely Rowena bought an altered box a wee while back and has since then commissioned me to make a larger one as a keepsake box for her little boy, Leo. I shall be making more of these, so if anyone reading this would like a personalised one for themselves or for a gift....girl or boy, please get in touch :)

I was thrilled to make this for her. She told me a few details of what she would like on it and this is what I came up with.The box is first of all painted with brown paint and then once dry it is painted with pva glue and white acrylic paint. When it is drying it cracks to this super distressed effect.

I then used the beautifully drawn Kathy Hare image 'Worried' from Sugar Nellie. It is coloured with prisma pencils and this image will continue to be one of my favourites for a long time to come!

The rest of the other details are a sizzix die cut star, Tim Holtz metal corners, letter scrabble tiles and a few buttons form my stash!
If you have not visited Rowena's Etsy shop...then you should take a look. Her shop is full of gorgeous vintage tags, cards, wedding stationary. She has managed to build herself up from just a hobby to what is now a full time business for her. I am so thrilled for her.

Quixotic Paperie - Young Love!

Afternoon folks!

Today is Wednesday and that brings us round to another Quixotic Challenge. This week it was my turn to choose the theme and I chose 'Something Old, Something New, Something Borrowed, Something Blue.' So for this challenge you can make a wedding card or pick one or more of the above elements!
Now the closest I could get to a wedding card was an Anniversary card. I used the fabulous image from the new Mo Manning rubber release now avilable at Quixotic Paperie. This one is called 'Young Love'. I think this also counts as 'Something Old' !!

The image is coloured entirely with prisma pencils and blended with sansador. I wanted more muted colours for this lovely couple and pencils are just perfect for achieving this effect.

The papers are Pink Paislee Bayberry Cottage, available at Quixotic Paperie. The sentiment is Hero Arts. I also pulled out my Viva Decor Glitter Liner in Holo Iridescent for the edges.
Elaine has also got some fab new goodies in store. Some great new Prima 6 x6 pads and lovely Craftable flowers. Check out the new products section to find them all in one place :) They are shifting fast......so I am off to get mine now !

Quixotic Paperie - Prince Edward Island

Hello peeps! I hope your weekend is going fine and dandy!

I want to let you know about another release of Mo Manning rubba now available at Quixotic Paperie. There is a great selection and variety in this new release.....summer, Christmas, vintage and my fav of all is 'Prince Edward Island' and is based on the character Anne of Green Gables, which a child was my favourite ever film.

I must dig them out again and rewatch.I have coloured the image with prisma pencils and gone for some more demure colours.

The papers are from the deliciously vintage Basic Grey 'Capella' 6x6 pad. The brown Prima lace is very vintagey and was just perfect for this card.I also added a Tim Holtz Adage Ticket, along with a kraft flower made with retro flower punches. The edges have been distressed with Tea Dye Distress Ink and then given a good scrunch and finished off with a pearl brad.

Sugar Bowl 41

Quixotic Challenge - Alter It!

Good afternoon...I hope this week is treating you well!

We are enjoying our last week of summer holidays in Scotland, with the children going back to school a week today. I am usually quite organised and have everything ready and labelled and packed but this year for some reason I still have lots of things on my to do list for school. Better get cracking!

Anyway, onto the business of the day!

This week for the Quixotic Challenges, Rowena has set us a theme of Alter It! I was quite happy with this one as a few weeks ago I bought several items from the 'Alterable Items' section in the Quixotic Paperie. So now I just had to get on with the job of altering!!

I ahve really been wanting to put some altered items into my Etsy and Folksy stores so it will be appearing in them shortly!

I bought this great door hanger(which is out of stock at the moment but Elaine assures me that it will be back in stock soon), sanded the edges just a little and painted it with white acrylic paint. I then used the Echo Park papers to cover most of the front of the card.
I thought this fab image from Mo Manning (at Quixotic Paperie) called 'Angelina's Balloon's', would suit the front perfectly for a little girl's bedroom. The lettering is America Craft Chipboard Thickers. The flower are from my stash and the gorgeous centre is from Prima.
I hope you will have time to alter something this week and join us.

Sugar Nellie - Sweet Pea!

Morning guys!

I hope you are well! I just wanted to share with you a card that I had already coloured and has been sat languishing on my desk for a few weeks. I finally had some spare minutes to make it into a card!
This is a very cute image from the last release By Mary Hall for Sugar Nellie. It is called 'Miss sweet Pea'. I really like this one with the sweet peas....I hope I have got the colours right! The image is coloured with prisma pencils with copics for the skin tones.

I followed the sketch from this weeks Friday Sketchers and used some papers from a long ago Scrapagogo box. I am determined to eat into these bright yellow pizza boxes :) The sentiments are from some new sets that I ordered from the US. Lots of nasty custom charges on them so I will have to be careful about that again.

A bit of dodgy stitching (don't look too closely...the machine was playing up!) and some ric-rac and there you have it!
Not much else to tell you about.....except that I hear that very soon there are going to lots of lovely new releases from Sugar Nellie...Mangas and Mary Hall. So keep tuned into the Sugar Nellie blog where you will hear the news first!!

Craft stamper and Simply Create

Yoo hooo...I am back! We had a wonderful family holiday in Northumberland visiting lots of beaches, castles and reading lots of books.

Now I am back and I am hitting the ground running...today is the start of our church's week long Holiday Club and today we had 72 kids enrolled! Tiring but lots of fun!
I have a couple of pieces of news to share. Firstly I am thrilled to have a little feature in this month's Craft Stamper Magazine (September 2010) where I am showing how to use just part of your stamped images rather than using the whole of it (sneeky peek in the photo above!). It is called 'In the Spotlight'. If you have not got your mag already there are some fabulous tutorials in it, like some ideas on how to ground your stamped images and also how to make faux porcelain flowers. I would love to have a go at this one! Just need a melting pot...another one to add to the wish list!

Secondly I wanted to let you know that Jacqui from 'Simply Create' our fabulous local craft shop, is setting up a DT.....and the best bit is anyone can apply. You can read the rules here.

Go on now....it is always worth a try!
