New Artist - Carmen Medlin

A BIG Welcome to the release day of stamps from the NEW artist over at Susana's Custom Art and Card Design!

Carmen Medlin - The Reflections Release

We Quixotic Paperie girls are sooo excited to be joining in with SCACD to celebrate this wonderful new artist that has joined the SCACD talented group of stamp designers! Of course you will be able to get your hands on these gorgeous new stamps from Quixotic Paperie!

So for the blog hopping fun you need to start over at Suzanne's blog Scrap Bitz. If you are hopping away already then you should have arrived at my blog from  my buddy Janiel.

Here is my make and I have used Winter Walk, but it could be used for any season, I hope you'll agree!

The image is coloured with pencils and paired with MME 'So Sophie' papers.  I am quite pleased with how the hair came out in this gorgeous image. It is a new colour combo that I have not tried before 'Chesnut' and 'Rosy Beige'. I quite like it and will certainly be using it again!

I have added some 'Art Glitter ' to the ground to give a bit of sparkle. And all my edges have had a little Crackle Paint added instead of my usual stitching.

So as you might have guessed if you are in the UK/EU you can get these lovely new stamps from Quixotic Paperie. If you are in the USA then pop along to Susana's Custom Art and Card Design and for those of you in Canada you can get yours from Art Du Scrapbooking.

WIN, WIN, WIN!
We have some extra hopping fun for you! Susana and Elaine have been ever so lovely and are offering a 20% off voucher (not including p&p) from their respective shops SCACD and Quixotic Paperie to a randomly picked commenter and so is Susana's friend Denise at Storage Units, Ink And More. There are FIVE vouchers up for grabs (one from QP, three from SCACD and one from SU Ink & More) so don't forget to leave a comment on all of the blogs in the hop!

Your next Hop Stop is Iris

Happy hopping!

Thanks for your visit!

Penny Black Birthday Card

Hiya guys!

Just a quick one to day...lots to do! I have a card to finish for our QP and SCACD blog hop tomorrow. And then there is all the usually housey stuff to be achieved. I have an overflowing ironing basket that needs to get kicked into shape.

So i just wanted to share a quick card I made for a friend who needed a birthday card. The lady who is receiving the card likes purple so I have gone for a sophisticated colour palette of purple and black. In real life the purple on her top matches the purpley shades on the paper.

The papers are old Bo Bunny I found and the stamp is also an older Penny Black. I love it for making quick Birthday cards. The colouring doesn't take me a whole evening like it normally does!

I even had enough papers and stash to make 2 of these so i will be listing one in my Etsy shop later...once the ironing is done!!

Any questions ...please ask!

Thanks for your visit.

Back tomorrow for the new artist release for SCACD!

Sugar Nellie - Artistic Godess

Morning folks!  I am happy to share with you another of the Simply Sassy gals that Sugar Nellie now has for sale! Warning...I do have lots of pics of this one!

This lady is called 'Artistic Goddess'. I do love her specks and awesome hair!  She is coloured with prismas entirely. The papers are all from Basic Grey 'Sugar Rush' pad. I just used the unpatterned pages from the back of the pad. I wanted to keep the papers fairly plain as the image has lots of detail.

I added a little pull out tag from behind the image and found this perfect sentiment! It came from a set of Kid's Quotes from Inkadinkadoo (I think!). I hand drew a little rainbow so don't look too closely :)

I have been asked a few questions about colouring with prismas....so I thought when I can I will try and give some little tips to help beginners!

Tip#1 - when colouring an image such as this one with very small details, use your lightest colour to blend in your shading. So for example when colouring the hair I used 3 shades of brown: Beige, Light Umber and Dark Umber. I did not use mineral spirits to blend in the shading but just took the beige pencil to blend in the lines.

Pencils unlike copics do not leave a 'perfect' finish. You can see some of the lines and shading..but this is all part of the charm of a pencil coloured image in my opinion! I do love copics too but also love the soft finish of the pencils...and they are very forgiving....mistakes can be easily rectified!

Anyway, Sugar Nellie has so much new rubber to show in the next few weeks.  My table has lots of  brand new uninked images ready to be made into cards:))) Better stop chatting and get cracking then!

Back soon!

Brothers

Morning folks...well what a surprise when I opened the curtains this morning....WHITE!!! Yup the white stuff falling from the sky and a covering on the ground!! I think up here we miss out Autumn and just do a hop. skip and a jump to winter.....Brrrrrrrr! So the heating is on and today I will be sorting through the hats, gloves and scarves to make sure we can stay warm when we go out today.

Anyway...lets hope it is just a blip!

Right onto my card...I am quite excited about this card...it is for a customer on Etsy. She asked me for a card that her boys could give their Grandpa for his 70th birthday and she wanted an image of  2 boys holding hands. I racked my brain and couldn't think of one from the many I already have and I hunted around the Internet to see if I could find a digi image...no luck. So I e-mailed Mo Manning and kindly asked if she could draw me an image of 2 little boys holding hands and 24 hours later I had just the perfect image! So a HUGE thank you to you Mo. She is such a busy lady with book deadlines so I was thrilled to have this wonderful drawing.

So the card resembles one I have done before with another Mo Manning image 'Bye Bye Boy'...but the customer really liked the colours and design of that card...so I just replicated it.

The papers are MME 'Lil Robots' collection, all machine stitched together. The sentiment is computer generated and the buttons are from my stash.

Well I am off to go warm up!

Thanks for your visit!

Sugar Nellie Blog Hop - New Releases

Hiya folks!

The girlies here on the Sugar Nellie DT decided it was high time we had a little blog hop! So in honour of all the fabulous September  stamp releases we decided that we would have a little show of inspiration from each of us! Sarah sadly couldn't join us this time as she had some other celebrating to do...something to do with a special birthday surprise :))

So thanks  for stopping by my blog! I still haven't had time to colour all the Simply Sassy images. This one is called 'My Friend Kitty.

The image is coloured mainly with copics but as always I use my prisma pencils for adding a blended background and for adding some shading to the skin and depth to her clothes. After colouring her skin with copics I always add a touch of 'Henna' pencil for a bit more depth.

The papers are from an older Bo Bunny collection called 'Alissa'. The flowers are made from a sizzxix die and  I have added a little pearl bead to the centre of each. I have no idea how I am going to post this one??

Now make sure you find time to pop by these girls fabulous blogs!

You won't be disappointed! and if you are looking for the new Sugar Nellie September releases just click here!

Hope to be back soon,
~Judy

Kraft tags!

Continuing with my minor obsession with colouring with pencils onto kraft I present you with some tags I made! Just for Christmas!
I have been on the hunt for an old fashioned Santa stamp...not a big one...just a little one that would fit on a tag...and when I was in Simply Create on Monday delivering my samples for my next class I spotted this little Santa....and in just the PERFECT size! So of course he jumped into my basket. For those of you who do not live close enough to Simply Create, then I can tell you he is made by Inkadinkado.

I stamped him with Brown Memento ink on a tag and then coloured with my trusty prisma pencils. I then added the sentiment which is from Whimsy Stamps. The edges are distressed lightly with 'Frayed Burlap'  Distress Ink.

These tags will be popping up in my Etsy and Folksy shops either later tonight or tomorrow for anyone who is interested :)

Thanks for your visit,
Back very soon with a card!

Sugar Nellie - Goosey Goosey Gander

Morning folks!!

Thanks so much for those of you helping me with tips for my photos! I think todays ones are slightly better than the last few days.....I decided it was time to read the instruction manual! I read about exposure and depth of field etc etc.......but these photos today are definetely sharper than yesterdays photos.

Anyway I had some time to play yesterday while my boys are at their Granny's and I decided to use one of the new Sugar Nellie Country Cousin range . This one is Called 'Goosey Gander'.

She is coloured with copics and I have used prisma pencil for shading the background around her. For the Goose I just  coloured lighty with a few shades of grey to give some depth rather than leaving completely white.

The papers are all left overs from a favourite pack from last year called SEI 'Winter Song'. I think I might just be able to squueeze a few more cards from them yet!
The sentiment is from a Whimsy Holiday Ticket set which is available from Quixotic Paperie.

I hope you all have a wonderful day. Hubbie and I have a day together without the children, not quite sure what we might do yet...but maybe planning a nice autumn walk and a coffee somewhere, before the children return tomorrow!

Enjoy your Friday whatever you are up to!

Hanglar and Stanglar Anniversary Card

Morning folks!

This morning I just wanted to share a card I made for a customer. She was looking for an anniversary card for her husband and spotted one I had made in my early card making days.....so I tried to recreate it as best I could!

I stamped, coloured and cut out 2 Hanglars that I have had in my collection for yonks. The papers are a combination GCD 'Ella Blue' collection and some plain white Doodlebug embossed cardstock. The photos just don't capture the embossed element. I don't know what is happening with my photos these days!

I am always worried creating commisions for people as you really hope they like it...but I know this lovely lady is really happy with it! Phew!

Anyway my photos are still pretty blurred so I am beginning to think the problem is me and not blogger...though I am doing nothing different from normal. I just can't get a good crisp clear shot! Maybe I need to read my camera manual!
Anyway thanks for your visit. I hope you all have a great day,

~Judy x

We have an extra special blog hop for you today. The Quixotic Paperie DT plus our very special guest the talented Kim Gruetzmacher (from Crafts By Kim and member of the Susana's Custom Art and Card Design Design Team) have all been playing with the lovely new Elisabeth Bell SCACD Winter Window Stamp to give you lots of ideas for your Winter makes.

For my Quixotic Paperie Elisabeth Bell SCACD Winter Window I coloured with copics and added details with stickles and Viva Decor Pearl Pen. The papers are BG 'Jovial'. I do love that tartan paper ....

The card is finished off with some red velvet ribbon from my stash and a couple of Jenni Bowlin pins.

Kraft and Colour Class @ Simply Create

Good afternoon folks!

I just wanted to pop on and let you know about a class I will be doing at Simply Create on the 1st Nov @7pm.  We are going to focus on creating these very simple but striking cards by colouring by with prismacolor pencils onto Kraft cardstock.

I don't want to show you a picture of all the cards as that would spoil the surprise but here is a little peek at one or two of them.

If you would like a place on this class phone Jacqui on this number:

Can't wait to see you there!

And on another note...if anyone can tell me why my pics are all blurry on my blog but fine on the PC and how to fix it , I would be ever so grateful!!

Trade It

I have fairly recenty started selling my cards online in Folksy. I have had my Etsy shop much longer...so why Folksy? Well, Folksy is the UK version of Etsy and it is wonderful to showcase you cards and makes to a UK audience and deal in ££££'s! Another thing about Folksy is that it is a lot smaller and feels much more like a small community.  If you post something in the forums about needing help or advice, you get a page full of answers almost immediately.

So anyway all this is to tell you that I have met a very lovely girl on there named Beata who is a jewellery maker. I had 'favourited' her shop, Iyobo Design,  and some of her items and then she told me she had her eye on some items in my shop.

So after some chat we decicded to come up with a 'trade'. She made me a necklace of my choice and I made her a customised keepsake box. I know now that we are both thrilled with our items!  What a great way to 'buy' those Christmas presents! Well, I was going to give my necklace away but I love it so much. Beata makes the beads herself and in real life the colour is so vibrant and the gold swirls sparkle.

So I just wanted to let you know about this talented girl's shop and don't forget to stop by and pay her a visit!

Sugar Nellie - Mister Elf

Well, I had hoped to have a blog post up for you this morning...and now it is nearly 4 o'clock. How did that happen??  Well firstly a trip to A & E to diagnose a mystery swollen hand in Daniel (which turns out to be an infection...very strange!)  and then lots of tidying, feeding and sorting of the bairns as it is now officially the start of the 'Tattie' Holidays here in the North East of Scotland.

So I wanted to share with you today a card I made with Mister Elf from Sugar Nellie. He is one of this years new Christmas Manga releases.  Now he is coloured with a mix of prismas and copics. I have used the prismas mainly for colouring the background and also for adding some extra shading, for example, on his shirt. I did not have all the green copics I would wish for so I coloured the shirt all in a base of G82 and then added some more depth with a darker green pencil.

The papers are all Cosmo Cricket 'Mitten Weather' which is getting a good use for my Christmas cards so far this year! I love it! You can grab this pad over at the Quixotic Paperie. The sketch is from this week's Mojo Monday.

I will be listing this one in my Folksy and Etsy shops later.

I hope you are all well and have some nice things planned for the weekend. For us I just hope we can have some chilling out time and maybe a nice walk in the Autumn sunshine...if it appears!

Back soon,
Judy

P.S. my photos are looking slighlty blurry and weird in Blogger.......I'll see if I can sort!

Mr & Mrs

Morning!! I have a card to share with you today that I made for my Mum. They are going to a wedding of some friends very soon and she requested a card from me! So I didn't really have any wedding images to use,  so I bought this gorgeous stamp from Lily of the Valley. The image is coloured with prismas. I covered the bride's dress with stickles and this is the part that I am not happy with. They were clear when wet but now have a pinky sparkle when dry....so I am a bit disappointed :((

Anyway I am sure my Mum won't notice the pinky tinge or if she does she will think it is intentional! And she will say it is lovely cause that what Mum's do :) And now a wee close up of the flowers:

Thanks for your visit...I am off to do some housework today and get some food in the house....the cupboards are bare!

Back soon,

Sugar Nellie - Simply Sassy!

Good morning and I am very happy to share with you one another of the Simply Sassy images now on pre-order from Sugar Nellie. I think I am right in saying that today is your last chance to pre-order and get the totally gorgeous Hippy Chick stamp for totally FREE...NADA...NOTHING!

I have coloured today one that I think is being called 'Pillow Talk'. I went for a more vibrant fun look this time. She is totally adorable and I love those big over the knee socks! I think I should get some of them to keep me warm in these chilly evenings! And those eyes......
She has been coloured with a mixture of prismas and copics. I coloured her hair with prismas ( Beige, Light Umber and Dark Umber) and have used copics for the rest of the image, apart from a little prisma shading for the background. I have stamped  little swirls around the image in 'Taken with Teal' ink from SU!

I hope you are enjoying these Sassy images...I would love to hear what you think of them and will you be buying them for yourself? Or have you already done so! I am enjoying working with images that are just a little more grown -up!

I hope you have a great day and are getting ready for a productive week ahead :)

World Cardmaking Day - Quixotic Paperie Style!

Celebrate World Card Making Day with a Festival of Favourites!

The Quixotic Paperie DT thought it would be fun to mark this year's World Card Making Day with a mini blog hop looking at our favourite Quixotic Paperie DT projects, products from the shop and card making tips, so grab a cuppa and join us!

We would love to hear about your favourite projects, products from Quixotic Paperie or your favourite tips so feel free to share!

My favourite Quixotic Paperie make is:

This cute little number!

Materials: Mo Manning 'Bye Bye Boy',
Papers - MME - Lil Robots collection

My favourite Quixotic Paperie Products:

It just has to be Mo Mannning rubbah!!
Memory Box Papers (well they are my favourite this week!)
and I just love Prima for all their gorgeous roses, flowers, lace and pearls! (we all need these little extras to complete our projects!)

My favourite tips:

I would like to share with you some tips for colouring this image.

Many of you will be colouring experts...if so skip past this part...if you are a beginner here a few thoughts I can share with you!

I personally love mixing my colour mediums. I usually will use a mix of prisma pencils and copics and this image is such an example. So for this reason I will always stamp my image in Memento ink.It works perfectly with both mediums...no fear of bleeding. I always use Neena Smooth white paper which I buy form the Hobby House. It is lovely smooth paper which blends with copics and prisma pencils equally well.
There is no skin in this image but I always colour skin with copics (E000, E00, E11, E13, R20).

Here are the copic colours used for this image.

Trousers: B93, B95, B97, B99,
Jumper: Y19, YR04, E08
Rucksack: BG01, BG07, BG09
Grass: YG67, G29, BG93
Hair: E31, E33, E35, E37, E39
Bike: C00, C1, C3, C5, C7

I will not go into an explanation of how to use copics as it has been done before much better than I can do in this little space! Check out this blog here where both Elaine and Kim C contribute their tips and hints to colouring with copics.

As always with the background, I turn to using my pencils. Personally speaking I love the faded out background they create. I would start with colouring roughly around my image in blue and then using mineral spirits and a paper stump blend in circular motions outwards till you achieve a smooth blended look.

There is more to see at the following wonderful blogs. We hope you enjoy the hop!

Enjoy the hop and don't forget to share your favourites on your blog (link back to us so that we can see them) or in the comments as you hop around!

Before you leave me to hop onto the next blog for inspiration...I just wanted to let you know that I am going to be taking a small break from Quixotic Paperie. Life is busy here my end and I need time to concentrate on some of life's other priorities. Though I hope to be back sharing some Quixotic Inspiration with you after Christmas!

Thanks for your visit!

Simply Create DT

Afternoon guys!

Sorry to be quiet this week. I have had a bit of a bug and felt achey and fluey. However today I felt a bit better and ready to get on with things! So today is just a very simlple and small project I made as part of  my Simply Create DT work.

I created this little totebag following a template on Splitcoaststampers. I then used the little Hero Arts Snowy House stamp I received in my DT kit. I coloured the image with copics and then added lots of Stickles for the snowy parts. I used a snow writer pen to created the snow at the bottom.

Thanks for your visit today!

Hope to be back real soon!

Hugs Judy x
